At Johnston Carmichael we pride ourselves on our personal approach when dealing with clients and this follows through into our dealings with staff.

Johnston Carmichael is unusual in that it has a dedicated Learning and Development Director, Iain Abernethy, who ensures that all staff studying towards a professional qualification are provided with the best  possible chance of exam success and career development.

Developing our people lies at the heart of our success. We offer valuable opportunities and experiences within our offices and departments and deliver a first class training programme to all students, which sets them on a promising career path with the firm.

Examples of the type of work Iain is actively involved in includes:

  • Guiding staff onto the correct career and study path.
  • Supporting students in developing study skills and study plans.
  • Regular contact with each student in the firm.
  • Monitoring assessments and progress, and providing assistance.
  • Liaising with office managing partners so they can support you too.
  • Facilitating and arranging work experience.
  • Providing a student voice to the partners in the firm.
  • Promoting student successes to the whole firm.
  • Sorting issues which students may have of a work or study nature.
  • Encouraging our standard of exceptional achievement.

You will also have contact with partners in your office and work closely with your manager. The rest of the training and development team are also on hand to provide assistance.

‘We strive to secure the right people for the firm, those that are up to the challenge of learning, progressing and delivering. My goals are to help you pass exams, to ensure your career is progressing and help you develop as a professional.

I think you’ll agree, the feedback our students give us is very positive.

I look forward to working with you.’
